Elephant - an African icon
Few animals are more instantly recognisable than Africa’s largest land mammal, the elephant.
Along with the rhinoceros and the lion they are one of the continent’s iconic species and are one of the most sought after animals for safari goers.
Yet not everyone who seeks out these gentle giants does so for the pleasure of simply watching them and taking photos. Across much of Africa poachers are hunting elephants for their ivory and the only way to get an elephant to give up its tusks is to kill it.
The rate at which these gentle giants are being killed is alarming – on average 96 elephants a day are slaughtered for their tusks – and puts the African elephant under a very real threat of extinction.
How Many Elephants
To help increase awareness of this crisis, and raise funds to tackle it, we’re proud to be supporting ‘How.Many.Elephants.’
Founded by artist and designer Holly Budge, How.Many.Elephants is a campaign that is inspiring and educating a global audience about the devastating impacts of the elephant ivory trade, as well as raising money for elephant conservation.
As well as being a talented artist and designer, Holly is also an adventurer and conservationist who has raised many thousands of pounds through her various challenges and adventures.
For each booking on the safaris suggested below we’ve pledged to donate US$ 100 to the How Many Elephants campaign.
Don’t worry, that doesn’t mean we’ve simply added US$ to our prices, the money we will donate is taken from our own profit margin.

Get close, get very close
To give you the chance to come face to face with Africa’s elephants we’ve designed these short safaris. Each of them offers a complete safari experience but they can easily be integrated into a longer safari if you have more time available.
The places we’ve chosen for these elephant encounters have some of the largest elephant herds remaining in Africa and will allow you to see them from game vehicles, boats, on foot and from hides.
